Peace and Freedom on the Ballot

Peace and Freedom on the Ballot

Cindy Sheehan is a "recovered democrat" running for Congress against Nancy Pelosi as an independent. She is endorsed by SF Greens and Peace and Freedom party. She appeared with Ralph Nader, Matt Gonzalez, Marsha Feinland and others to run as an alternative to what we have installed in Washington now. It was great to hear them speak. Unfortunately, you probably won't get to hear them unless you go see them because they've been shut out of the debates, which is a shame. Nader said that "once elected officials fear the people more than they fear the corporations, then we can have a true democracy."

Debate This

The 2008 presidential debates are underway. First and foremost what is predominantly absent here are more voices that challenge the status quo. The similarities of Obama and McCain outweigh their differences for me, so the debate is about minor details of who is more proactive, who is more reluctant, whose voting record backs them up, etcetera etcetera. What it boils down to is they are both FOR continued military spending, FOR wall street bailout, FOR nuclear energy and FOR offshore drilling, just to different degrees so where is the opposing view here?

My Bicycle Savings

My Bicycle Savings

The Savings Calculator for Commuting by Bicycle vs. Car calculates money saved on gas, pounds of co2 avoided, hours exercised and calories burned. I use food as fuel, but didn't necessarily spend any more than the average person on groceries. Your body becomes more efficient at using oxygen and burning calories as you ride and gain muscle. Reflexes become sharper, stress falls away, and smiling becomes a habit as you glide effortlessly through traffic jams on your bike.

Remembering Peter Camejo

Peter Camejo

Video: Nader/Camejo kickoff Rally 2004 in San Francisco and Peter Camejo's speech.

Because there was absolutely no coverage of third parties and independents then, I took my video camera, taped the event and posted it online. There are people with sound ideas and solutions to solving the nation's problems, but, you'll never hear them because their voices are excluded by the corp.owned media. Now I hear the Dems (idling in the center) and Repub "Maverick" candidates borrowing the rhetoric of the independents in a posture in order to win votes, meanwhile watching the same horrific political game getting played out, over and over and over again. I'm STILL waiting to see media coverage of third parties and independent candidates in today's election coverage and in the debates. That would be a REAL change. In the meantime, grab your video cameras and microphones and use the internet as your podium.
